More refurbished hoplites

Another 48 hoplites made ready for battle.  Apart from one Newline figure all of these are HäT figures painted early on in the ancient armies project that have now been given refreshment and rebasing.  Shiny bronze paint has been applied to helmets and greaves, chipped paint made good, a few shields given different patterns to avoid monotony and a fresh coat of varnish given to all.

The first batch grouped figures with blues, whites and reds as the dominant colours.  Originally these were painted in batches of four with identical shields, the idea being in time to expand each pattern into a full unit.  This was never done and I have decided to mix up the shield patterns to make a more interesting looking group.

The second batch grouped figures with a mix of black or red colour schemes and added in a few new figures, making up the numbers with one left over Newline figure (the one with the black and white crest on his helmet).  Getting a bit bored with the four dot pattern on new shields, I added a couple of more whimsical designs.

The frightener face was drawn on by pen before a bit of colour was added.  The result is pleasing but the effort required deters me from doing more like that.

The 12 bases of figures can either be used in two groups of 6 as shown - as they will be for a couple of games of Alala! tomorrow - or in three groups of 4, suitable for use with Impetus or my slowly developing home baked rules.

These are the last of the old Greek figures needing repair and rebasing.  There are another 50 or so figures that have never been painted but these can wait until work on repairs and expansion to other armies has been done.
