Looking down on the painting desk. |
January started with frantic painting of masses of 10mm cavalry for my first 30 Years War game. It ends with the painting desk still loaded with 10mm cavalry but no great sense of urgency to finish them. |
Mounted and dismounted figures for a first Dragoon Regiment are ready for varnishing and basing. Horse holders have already been done so this unit will be ready for action at the Battle of Cheriton to be played next week. Figures are all Pendraken |
Cleaning up a second dragoon regiment - figures from Pendraken, Lancer and Irregular Miniatures - and, in the foreground, a first unit of Croat Light Cavalry. |
Four more cavalry regiments, two larger ones of Lancer figures (larger in size of figure as well as number), two standard regiments from Pendraken and Miniature Figurines, undercoated and awaiting horse colours. |
Figures for a Roman Allied Legion put out but not touched during the month. Maybe their time will come in February so they are ready for the Ides of March? These are 20mm HäT and Newline Figures. |
Once the seven regiments now on the desk are done I will be able to field 19 cavalry regiments in all. This is still somewhat short of the 32 regiments that the Imperial and Protestant armies put into action at the first battle of Breitenfeld in 1631 but is getting there. Whether I will get this batch finished before new figures arrive with orders just placed is another matter. These will add various irregular cavalry units as well more Harquebusiers, Cuirassiers and regular cavalry. I may get moving on some more infantry before attending to those.
When I will find time to work on the fresh supply of trieres, penteres and other additions for the ancient fleets that have just arrived from Tumbling Dice I am not entirely sure. |
Progress is progress! I look forward to your Cheriton battle.
